2. The One Where No One's Ready [VERIFIED]
"The One Where No One's Ready" is the second episode of the third season of the American television sitcom Friends and 50th overall, which aired on NBC on September 26, 1996.[1] The plot centers on Ross's (David Schwimmer) anxiety as his friends take too long getting ready for a function that evening.
2. The One Where No One's Ready
Chandler (Matthew Perry) tricks Joey (Matt LeBlanc) into drinking chicken fat from a glass in Monica's (Courteney Cox) fridge as he admits after Joey drinks it that he fell for the same thing and drank the chicken fat earlier. Ross (David Schwimmer) arrives to gather everyone together for an important function at his museum. Despite only 22 minutes remaining for them to don their formal attire, no one else is ready, apart from Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) who arrives fully dressed and ready to go.
In a fit of insecurity, Monica breaks into Richard's voicemail, and hears a message left by another woman, leading her to believe that Richard has already begun seeing someone else. Chandler suggests the woman might be Richard's daughter Michelle, and Monica confirms this by prank-calling her. Michelle calls her back, and Monica admits her indiscretions. She is unable to secure Michelle's silence on the matter, so Chandler and Phoebe are left yanking her off the second phone in her bedroom.
Ross orders Chandler to get dressed. When he does, Joey surrenders the chair but takes its cushions with him. Phoebe eventually finds a Christmas ribbon meant to garnish a present in Rachel's room and wears that on her dress to cover the stain. Rachel is the only one almost ready to go, but she cannot decide on what to wear, trying Ross's patience. Eventually he snaps and yells at her in front of everyone, demanding that she pick out any outfit at all so that they can go. In response, Rachel emerges in sweat pants, having lost interest in attending the function.
Unbeknownst to Joey, Chandler has already taken his revenge by hiding all of Joey's underwear, forcing him to go commando in a rented tux. Joey promises to do the "opposite" of Chandler hiding his underwear, and emerges wearing everything Chandler owns (and still without underwear). Ross finally steps in and bans them from the function, and apologetically asks Rachel what he can do to make it up to her, to which Joey suggests that he drink the glass of chicken fat. Ross agrees, but Rachel stops him just in time. Overwhelmed by the depths of his love for her, she dresses in record time while Ross sorts out Joey and Chandler's argument, and Monica makes her final disastrous access to Richard's answering machine. She breaks into his voicemail again to erase all his messages and record a new one. However, she accidentally deletes and re-records his outgoing message, humiliating herself.
Matt LeBlanc dislocated his shoulder during one take of the stunt where Joey and Chandler race towards the chair, landing upside down as a result, with the audience assuming it was part of the act. The injury was not edited into the episode, but for the following two episodes, LeBlanc's injury was written into the show as Joey dislocating his shoulder while jumping on his bed.[4] Production on the episode was temporarily halted, and completed once LeBlanc recovered.
"The One Where No One's Ready" is the second episode of the third season of Friends, which aired on September 26, 1996. The plot centers on Ross's anxiety as his friends take too long getting ready for a function that evening.
Unlike most Friends episodes that featured multiple locations, such as Central Perk and the two apartments, the aforementioned outing was only set in Monica and Rachel's apartment. Its plot centered on Ross' continuous nagging for his friends to get ready to attend his work function that evening. Unfortunately, the rest of the group weren't as invested in the event as he was, so most of them were nonchalant about the idea of getting ready early. Monica was paranoid about the message she left on Richard's phone, Rachel was taking so long to decide what to wear, Phoebe was all dressed up but had a wardrobe accident, while Joey and Chandler were arguing about a chair.
"The One Where No One's Ready" was simple but it featured a lot of memorable moments, particularly Joey wearing all of Chandler's clothes as part of their childish fight. Since the Friends episode was essentially filmed like a play with only one set, the cast and crew expected it to be a smooth and easy shoot, but that wasn't the case. In fact, it ended up being the most complicated production after Matt LeBlanc suffered a serious injury during filming, as revealed in HBO Max's Friends reunion special. As he and Chandler fought about who gets to sit on the single-seater couch, there was a scene where Joey jumps towards the said chair. There were three perfectly usable takes for this particular gag, but they pushed for a fourth one where LeBlanc tripped on the coffee table, his legs went up in the air, and his shoulder came out of the socket. The reunion special showed the behind-the-scenes footage of what happened after that accident where the actor can be heard in agony off the stage. Since the episode was contained and featured all of them in a single set, Friends co-creator David Crane recalled that they had to stop filming altogether because there was no way they could continue without Joey.
For a while, LeBlanc had to be in a sling given the severity of his injury, and although he was able to return to work, Friends couldn't simply pick up from where they left off and finish "The One Where No One's Ready." Instead, they had to wait until the actor was fully healed and no longer needed the arm sling to resume shooting the episode, which made it much more complicated in terms of scheduling. As they waited for that, the sitcom found an ingenious way to work LeBlanc's injury into the story. Initially, the character was implied to be jumping on his bed when he suddenly fell off and had to go to the hospital for treatment. Rachel even highlighted the ridiculousness of the whole situation when she asked Joey if he told the doctor how he broke his shoulder. That said, it's not a reaching thought since it's Joey involved.
Since the Friends reunion didn't take the traditional format where the actors reprised their characters and continued the show's story, it made things up by revealing a lot of new information that even die-hard fans didn't know. That includes how Chandler and Monica's relationship was originally going to be a fling, as well as that moment when Courteney Cox got mad at LeBlanc for scrubbing her lines that were written on the table. But arguably, the story of how complicated filming "The One Where No One's Ready" was one of the most interesting.
"The One Where No One's Ready" is the second episode of the third season of the American television situation comedy Friends, which aired on NBC on September 26, 1996.[1] The plot centers on Ross's (David Schwimmer) anxiety as his friends take too long getting ready for a function that evening.
Ross (David Schwimmer) arrives at Monica's apartment to gather everyone together for an important function at his museum. He begins to freak out when no one is ready, and one unfortunate event after the other starts to happen to everyone.
Joey and Chandler - After Chandler (Matthew Perry) comes back from the bathroom, he is dismayed to find that Joey (Matt LeBlanc) took his chair while he was up. This causes an argument between the two which frustrates Ross. Chandler tries various tactics to make Joey get up, including name-calling, sitting on Joey's lap and waving his hand in front of Joey's face repeatedly. In an effort to move things along, Ross tells Chandler to go get ready, and then when he comes back Joey will go get ready and vacate the chair. Chandler comes back and Joey gets up to go get dressed, but Joey takes the chair cushions with him in an attempt to infuriate Chandler. Joey returns shortly after demanding to know where his underwear is. Chandler tells Joey that he hid his underwear in retaliation for taking the chair. When Ross asks Joey why he can't just wear the underwear he has on now, Joey reveals that he is not wearing any, but can't do that in a rented tuxedo (as Joey puts it, "I'm not going commando in another man's fatigues"). Joey leaves again and returns wearing everything Chandler owns and starts doing lunges in his clothes, which grosses Chandler out since Joey is not wearing underwear. Ross eventually settles the argument and demands Chandler give Joey back his underwear and Joey give Chandler back the cushions. Joey then gets dressed.
Phoebe - Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) arrives at Monica's apartment fully dressed and ready to go, much to Ross' delight. Unfortunately though, during Joey and Chandler's argument, Joey accidentally throws hummus onto Phoebe's dress. She tries to ask Monica what gets out hummus, but Monica is too distracted with her own problems. Rachel then tries to find something else for Phoebe to wear, but is unsuccessful. Phoebe eventually finds a hideous, oversized Christmas ribbon in Rachel's room and wears that on her dress to cover the stain.
Rachel - (Ross and Rachel are still dating at this point in the series) When Ross arrives at the apartment, Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) is almost ready to go, but she cannot decide on what to wear. She keeps finding little reasons not to wear particular outfits, which tries Ross' patience. Eventually he snaps and yells at her in front of everyone, demanding that she pick out any outfit so that they can get going. Rachel goes into her room and comes out shortly after in sweatpants and a sweatshirt, stating that she's not going to go. Ross tries to apologize and asks what he can do to make it up to her, Joey suggests that he drink a glass of chicken fat from Monica's fridge, Rachel agrees. Ross is about to drink it, but Rachel stops him just as the glass touches his lips. She is in disbelief that Ross would actually do that for her, and she realizes how much he really loves her. She dresses in record time and lets slip to Ross as they're leaving that she, too, is "going commando." 041b061a72
